How to Install Memory in an HP M8020N

The HP Pavilion Media Center M8020N desktop system is designed for running complicated programs such as video games or video playback programs, so it already has a good deal of memory installed. As technology continues to improve and software requirements escalate, you may eventually find that you need more speed, however. Installing new memory in your HP computer only takes a few minutes and can be done by even an inexperienced computer user.

Turn off the HP M8020N computer. Remove the power cable and disconnect any additional cords attached to the computer's ports.

Place the M8020N's case on its side on a stable work surface. Locate the case screws at the top and bottom ends of the back edge of the access panel. Remove both case screws with a Phillips screwdriver.

Grab the handle on the back end of the case and slide the access panel off the HP M8020N. Locate the existing memory modules, which are positioned at the center of the motherboard to the right of the processor fan.

Press down the plastic holding clips on the front and back ends of the first memory module. Lift the module straight up to disconnect it from the memory port.

Check the holes on the bottom of the new memory module and compare them to the notches on the memory port. Line up the notches and then push the module down onto the M8020N's memory port until the plastic clips snap into place.

Repeat the process with the M8020N's second memory module if you are upgrading both modules at the same time. Slide the access panel cover back onto the HP computer and reconnect the two case screws.

Plug in the M8020N's power cable and then turn turn on the computer.
