Your Toshiba computer's Random Access Memory, or RAM, determines how many programs, documents or Web pages it can access at one time. Unlike the hard drive, which permanently stores saved data, RAM stores temporary data -- the more you can store, the more responsive your computer will be. Adding RAM is one of the quickest and cheapest ways to improve computer performance, and requires only a new RAM DIMM card and a small screwdriver. Close the lid and flip the computer over. 2Slide the battery lock tab to the "unlocked" position. Slide the battery out and set it aside. 3Use your screwdriver to remove the RAM access bay lid. It may have an icon shaped like a comb next to it; if you don't know which bay is the RAM bay, consult your user manual. Set the plastic lid aside. 4Pull the metal tabs holding the current RAM DIMM aside. Slide the DIMM away from the contacts. Set the old DIMM aside. 5Slide the new DIMM into place. It only fits one way. Push down firmly until it is fully inserted. Snap the metal tabs closed. 6Replace the RAM bay lid and screw it into place. Replace the battery and slide the lock tab back into the "locked" position. Flip the computer back over, raise the lid and press the "Power" button.
